How To Prepare Your Jeep For Off-Road Driving

Top Off Fluids

Before any long trip, and especially one that will take you off of the smooth pavement, you should check all of your fluid levels – including your fuel. Take a peek under the hood and make sure you have enough oil, windshield wiper fluid, coolant etc. Then, head to the nearest gas station to make sure the tank is filled up. We also like to pack a few extra water bottles and possibly a spare bottle of oil and coolant in the back.

Check Your Tires

Aside from engine trouble, your tires are the most likely thing to have you sidelined when off roading. Before you head out, be sure to examine your tires for any signs of serious wear and tear like scratches or bulging. If you notice any problems, you may need a replacement before any serious off roading. You should also check your tire pressure and make sure all four tires are filled correctly. If you are heading into rocky terrain, it may be a good idea to bring along a portable air compressor and a spare.

Pack An Emergency Kit

You should always travel with an emergency kit in the back, especially if you are planning an outdoor adventure. Your surroundings, the time of year, and your passengers will all dictate exactly what you should be packing but don’t forget warm clothes, extra pairs of walkable shoes, a flashlight, portable phone chargers, non-perishable food and plenty of water.
