“The Jeep stable of SUVs continues to be recognized for superior on- and off-road performance and the addition of many available advanced technology, safety and security features,” Jim Morrison, Head of Jeep Brand – FCA North America, said in a press release.
In order for the 2020 Renegade to get its Top Safety Pick rating, it had to successfully complete a series of six crash tests, small overlap front (driver’s side), small overlap front (passenger side), moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints. The 2020 Renegade posted the IIHS’ top score of ‘good’ in five of those categories and an ‘acceptable’ rating in the small overlap front (passenger side) test.
The experts at the IIHS have been placing more focus on preventing accidents and crashes before they happen. That’s why versions of the 2020 Renegade that are equipped with the automaker’s Automatic Emergency Braking system are specifically given the IIHS award. The Jeep AEB system was also given a ‘superior’ rating by the IIHS.
