What’s new for Uconnect 5?

The biggest change for the coming Uconnect 5 infotainment system occurs behind the scenes. FCA engineers have changed operating systems. The Unix architecture is provided by Google that has been specifically designed for automotive use. Processing power has been increased by a factor of five. There is a lot that users will be able to do with the new Uconnect system. Among the most exciting new functions it will perform will be the ability to make reservations and pay for things as well as wirelessly pay for gas at participating locations. Finally, the new Uconnect system will allow owners to schedule and pay for service appointments at participating dealerships.

How many phones can be connected?

While the Uconnect 5 infotainment system will be based on Google software, it is still compatible with both the Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ suites of applications. Vehicle owners who also use Alexa will be able to pair Uconnect 5 to their smart speaker.

The software changes will make applications run smoother. Owners and passengers will be able to connect two phones to the Uconnect 5 system via Bluetooth.

Drivers worried about distractions while the behind the wheel can perform many functions using natural voice commands. This will allow them to do almost anything without having to take their eyes off the road or hands off the wheel.

The Uconnect 5 system is slated to appear in 2020 Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram models in the near future. Let us know if you’d like to be contacted when this technology is available for a demonstration.
